What to do and consider before running your blog – 9 tips for a successful start

what to do and concider before start running a blog

There is a lot of information out there about everything, and with little preparation, before you start blogging, you may be very successful in this journey. Many people start blogging these days and part of them successful, but many people don’t get good results and give up too quickly.

If you are thinking about a blog or are wondering how to start blogging, I’m sure this article will be useful for you, to think and prepare some things before you start.

1. Be organized

Choose a notebook to record everything related to your blog. Or create a file on your computer. It depends on you and how it is easier for you to work. I prefer to write on paper. But it is very important to collect all the important information in one place – usernames and passwords, ideas for future publications, partner links, product link you present, costs. Always write when you do something on your blog. The information is too much to try to remember, and it is not necessary.

2. Look at blogging as a business because it is

Blogging is not that easy as it looks. You have to take it seriously because it is a business and for a profit, you have to work hard. When you start you have to learn a lot of things – how to write great blog posts, technology and SEO, and social media. But also you will have to spend a lot of time researching, taking nice photos, promoting and connecting with your readers and other bloggers, updating your posts, and publish new articles.

3. Pick up a niche and decide what you want to blog about

Defined a niche you want to join and then stick to it. Because you will be able to identify who your readers are, what they look for, and how you could target them. Write about something you know well, something that is interesting to you, something you are good at. Or think what’s your passion and write about it. This is the only way to produce valuable content for your visitors. Also, when you write about something you love, you will easily get motivated, especially on the days when you are tired and have doubts. Believe me, there will be such days.

Keep in mind that not all niches have equal profit potential. It is difficult to succeed in a niche with great competition. But it is equally difficult to succeed in a narrowly profiled niche where there is not much demand and interest. However, I believe that every niche is good and can be successful if you work hard, and if you don’t give up. Success will not come overnight, so you have to be patient.

See what your competitors are doing and learn from them. Do something similar, but also include something from yourself. Try to offer your readers something better and something that will be very useful to them. You will be even more successful if you have an idea for something that others in this niche don’t do or offer. First, choose a general topic that can encompass many smaller topics. And then, organize them as you prefer. Take time to prepare your ideas about what categories your blog will have because this will save you a lot of time when you start writing and working on your blog.

4. Think about the name of your blog and do all sign-ups

Think about the name of your blog. It has to be related to the niche you choose and the content of your site. Then check if there is a free domain with the same name and buy it to be yours. Create an email with the same name. Also, sign up for all the social media you plan to use. You don’t need to make all the settings and start posting things right now. The idea is for the name you choose for your blog to be the same across all social networks.

5. Prepare your articles

After choosing a niche and deciding what to write about, you need to think about what categories your blog will have. Then start writing your articles and prepare a few for each category. For me, this is one of the most important things to do before running your blog. I can tell you from experience that writing articles take time. So, start writing. Yes, there are many other things you need to learn and do after that, but you can’t do it all at once. Believe me, it will be easier for you when your blog posts are ready. This way your blog will not look like a brand new blog. Also, your readers will not take you seriously if you have only two or three posts on your blog. Every successful blogger will tell you that it’s best to have at least 15 articles before you start. And when you’re done with your articles, you can start setting up and run your blog. Additionally, promoting a blog without content will have no results and you will lose time and energy. Think about it!

6. Produce valuable content and be yourself

There are two important things to remember when writing your articles – be yourself and produce valuable content. You need to show who you are so your readers can trust you. Be honest and don’t be afraid to share your opinion or how you feel. Build your own style. It’s great to have a good blog name and a killer theme, but the most important is to have valuable content. Your readers will come to you for what you write – if you give them information or advice if you sell what they look for if you offer them a solution to their problems. A great blog post has more readers, shares, and rankings.

7. Cover the basics – you have to learn new things

You have to know what you are doing and you will need to learn new things about blogging and will have to pick up new skills unless you are already in a technical field. As a blogger, you need to understand some basics – different platforms, SEO, HTML, copyright laws for content, links, and images. The good thing is that there are many resources – training, guides, and tips.

8. Blog design

Consider your blog design. It is really important. When choosing a design for your site, think about your visitors and pick up a simple and well-organized design. It definitely will be more appealing to your visitors. Use basic fonts for your articles that are easy to read, but don’t use too pale or dark colors. Also, your site has to be mobile-friendly, because many people are mostly using smartphones and tablets.

If you use a free WordPress theme, as I do, then you must delete the “Hello World” post that usually WordPress comes with. Otherwise, it looks like you have no idea what you are doing.

Images are important for your posts and your blog, so choose one size for vertical images (for example 800 x 1200 pixels) and one size for horizontal images (800 x 500 pixels is a great option) and stick with them. Low or too high image quality is not good for your blog, so you need to edit them. With free sites like Canva you can easily edit your images, add text, or create custom images.

9. Get help

Find groups for bloggers and participate, for example on Facebook. You can get support from other people and ask them questions, and to find new friends too. I joined Wealthy Affiliate Marketing and I did my blog with their training (which is free), and I am a premium member now (it’s paid, but it’s worth it). And also I found out there a great community with people who help others, always answer questions and I am very happy being there. You can check my Wealthy Affiliate Review if you are interested

Blogging requires a lot of effort and is not the easiest way to make money. You have to spend time and energy on researching, writing, rewriting, editing, sourcing images, learning, and promoting. But if you like it and you are interested, don’t give up. Just start!!!
